Hagop T. Bedoyan
Partner
As the eldest child of immigrant parents, Hagop Bedoyan was born and raised in Fresno, California in a bi-lingual and bi-cultural family, not speaking a word of English until he started attending elementary school. Despite such humble beginnings, Hagop graduated from high school a year early and headed off to U.C.L.A., where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science.
Hagop always knew that his "roots" were in the San Joaquin Valley and that he would someday return to Fresno. He attended law school at the University of Pacific's McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento, California, where he obtained the degree of Juris Doctor With Distinction in 1987. While in law school and working full-time for a bankruptcy firm, Hagop still managed to receive the American Jurisprudence Award in Personal Property Finance and was also elected to membership in the school's scholastic honor organization known as The Traynor Society. His most memorable experience in law school was studying Constitutional Law from current United States Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy.
In 1995, Hagop became the first attorney in Fresno County to be certified as a Specialist in Bankruptcy Law by the California State Bar's Board of Legal Specialization. In 2000, he left his solo-practice and accepted an invitation to join the firm and build upon its already existing creditor oriented bankruptcy practice. Since arriving at the firm, Hagop has transformed the firm's bankruptcy department into a full-service bankruptcy department, representing debtors, creditors, trustees and creditors' committees in all types of bankruptcy and reorganization proceedings, including bankruptcy litigation and appellate practice. Whether representing a debtor in a consumer matter, a regional airline reorganizing under Chapter 11 of the Bankruptcy Code, or a large agricultural lender as a creditor, Hagop enjoys a diverse practice and continues to build upon the firm's past successes.
Hagop is currently the Chairman of the Bankruptcy Advisory Commission for the California State Bar of California. He is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute, Past President of the Central California Bankruptcy Association, Past Director of the California Bankruptcy Forum and a member of the Bankruptcy Court Clerk's Advisory Committee for the Fresno Division of the Eastern District of California. He serves as a Resolution Advocate for the United States Bankruptcy Court's Bankruptcy Dispute Resolution Program for the Eastern District of California. Hagop loves to impart in others his passion for bankruptcy law. Hagop is an Adjunct Professor in Bankruptcy Law in the State Center Community College District's Paralegal program in Fresno, California, and a frequent speaker at various professional and legal conferences throughout California.
Hagop is married and the father of two teenage daughters. When he isn't taking his daughters shopping, Hagop loves to read about early Christian history. Hagop relaxes by working out at the gym and skiing at every opportunity he gets
